Türkiye and Turkmenistan Reach an Agreement on Gas
The Turkish Ambassador celebrates this magnificent agreement between Turkmenistan and Türkiye.
According to the Anadolu Agency, Türkiye's Ambassador to Ashgabat, Ahmet Demirok, stated that the delivery of Turkmen gas to Türkiye via swap through Iran shows that Turkmenistan is a reliable partner in the global energy market.
Demirok highlighted that Turkish companies have made significant contributions to Turkmenistan's transformation since its independence, noting, "Turkish companies have completed over 1,000 projects worth more than $50 billion in Turkmenistan since independence. These numbers indicate the trust that Turkmenistan has in Turkish companies."
"We are realizing a dream together with our Turkmen brothers," he said. Ambassador Demirok emphasized the long-standing cooperation between Türkiye and Turkmenistan in the energy sector, stating that the topic of delivering Turkmen natural gas to Türkiye via swap through Iran has been on the agenda for years.
Derya Soysal, speaking to the renowned Turkish newspaper İstiklal about this agreement, said it would bring the two Turkic-speaking countries even closer.
Turkmenistan expert Derya Soysal stated that this historic agreement, which emerged as a result of nearly 30 years of Turkish diplomatic persistence and bilateral contacts, achieved a win-win situation for both countries. "As we all know, Turkmenistan is a country that bases its foreign relations on neutrality. However, as an observer of the Organization of Turkic States, Turkmenistan places importance on its cultural ties with Türkiye. Turkmenistan sees Türkiye as a partner and a friendly country. This agreement is a beautiful example of Turkmenistan's approach. Of course, this agreement will further bring the two countries closer. Thanks to this agreement, Türkiye will be freed from dependence on Russian and Iranian natural gas, and Turkmenistan will no longer be obligated to sell its natural gas exclusively to Russia. Thus, Turkmenistan's market will also expand."
